Members practicing Nichiren Buddhism do not have to lead secluded, isolated lives as we would imagine a buddhist monk would do. Members lead daily lives facing the struggles and challenges of modern living. Overcoming difficulties and challenges, we continue to live in the present moment, doing our human revolution, striving for enlightenment or Buddhahood.  SGI members participate in various activities to develop a better understanding of the practice and to support other members in their practice. The function of these meetings is to enable members to deepen their understanding of the profound principles of life as taught by Nichiren Daishonin. To attend an introductory to Buddhism meeting, discussion meeting or any activity in your neighborhood please contact the SGI USA Austin Buddhist center. The pivotal meeting of SGI-USA is the neighborhood discussion meeting. It is at this gatherings that  members and their guests come together to discuss a theme or topic relevant to everyone. It is the heart of the organization and key to the members growth. Here are some pictures from monthly discussions meetings in various neighborhoods of Austin and nearby.
