The 14 million members of Soka Gakkai International (SGI) around the world embrace Nichiren Buddhism, a dynamic philosophy grounded in the realities of daily life, seeking to promote the values of peace, culture and education. The core philosophy of the SGI can be summed up by the concept of “Human revolution.” This is the idea that the self-motivated inner change of a single individual positively affects the larger web of life and results in the rejuvenation of human society.
The SGI-USA is the American branch of the SGI network, with more than 2,600 neighborhood discussion groups and nearly 100 SGI-USA centers throughout the USA.
The SGI-USA web site, www.sgi-usa.org, contains a lot of useful information on the basics of practice. It also has a wealth of members resources including an online bookstore, online subscriptions to our publications and the Florida Nature & Culture Center’s Conference schedule. Additional information on the global SGI movement for world peace and the happiness of all people is available at SokaGlobal.org.
The SGI web site, www.NichirenLibrary.org, has a great online library for the study of Nichiren’s writings and a useful Dictionary of Buddhist Terms.
Central to the SGI is the example set by the lives of the Soka Gakkai’s first three Presidents. You can learn more about them at www.tmakiguchi.org, www.joseitoda.org, and www.daisakuikeda.org. These websites, especially DiasakuIkeda.org, includes a plethora of inspiring encouragement on many topics relevant to everyday life.
The heart of the SGI movement is the informal neighborhood district discussion meeting held in members’ houses throughout the area. To find a meeting location, contact us here.
